Horsemanship Day 3 - Horse Care
Welcome one and all to session six of horsemanship! Our group has been steadfast in learning the ropes of riding again, so much so that they embarked on a trail ride today! Our activities today surrounded horse care and understanding body language of others.
To start the day off, Mac gave everyone a lesson on the parts of a hoof and how they’re cleaned. Each of our campers got to hold a real hoof, before going outside to clean one hoof of their horse. This gave a great chance to understand a horse’s body language, as handling a horse’s leg can be stressful for them if done improperly. Ensuring they are perfectly comfortable and willing to work with our campers is very important for being safe and caring for our steeds.
With our riders completing all tasks at a steady pace, before long we were ready for a trail ride! All the horses were swiftly saddled up, and in the blink of an eye they were off on the trails. The remainder of the day involved removing saddles, lunch, and choice activities back at home base!
