D3: Identifying Emotions

Welcome back for day 3 of overnight camp!

This morning started off with a lovely pancake and fruit breakfast, followed by a camp-wide game of “phobias”; a game teaching our campers how to handle and help others with fears they themselves may not understand.

After that we split up into groups and got into our daily Social Skills: "Identifying Emotions”. Head Counsellor Rodeo showed us “Your Majesty,” a game of roles and rules where our campers discover what it’s like to ignore others, be ignored themselves, and then we all discuss how it made everyone feel!

Meanwhile Head Counsellor Otter got her group well-versed in “Help! I’m feeling!” In this activity campers must figure out what emotion one of the counsellors is feeling without being told directly, showing them that sometimes they have to look deeper to understand how someone is truly feeling.

Following some chicken strips and fries for lunch (and of course a quick rest hour!) we all went to our choice activities; low ropes, soccer, and painting!

After a wonderful sausages and mashed potatoes supper, we all jumped into an awesome game of "Dress The Beast”!! This is one of our favourite games, where two teams compete on a field to infiltrate each other’s bases, steal an item of clothing, and return to their side of the field without being tagged. The winning team is decided by the amount of clothing each “Beast” has on by the end of the game!

Of course we wrapped up the night with “steps in the right direction,” a little time where our campers can give “steps” stickers to other campers that they’re proud of! With all that said and done, it was another sensational day for the books and time for bed.

See ya’ll tomorrow!
