Adventure Camp is here!

We are thrilled to welcome you to the beautiful Kamp Kiwanis property for Amicus Adventure Camp! Your counsellors were so excited to finally meet you and get the session started.

We started with an introduction to camp groups, staff and rules. Quack Quack reminded us that while at camp we always, “Cruise in twos with shoes” and respect ourselves, each other and nature. This was followed by some energetic descriptions of the camp activities from your counsellors! Some of these were wilderness skills, water games art and sports! Many more will come through the session. Which camp activity is your favourite? Be sure to let your counsellor know so they can make sure it happens while you are at camp!

Next on the schedule was Camp Wide Game! In this block, all campers participate in a high energy game that gets them moving and warmed up. Today we played the classic game of Human Scrabble with an ocean theme. Campers worked together to spell out the most elaborate ocean-themed word they could think of. The hard part though, is that the counsellors hold the letters they need to spell the word! Campers must chase them down to get the letters they need.

After camp wide game, the groups each found a quiet spot for 2:6 time. Here, campers build their braids, create a contract with their group and start settling into camp. It is a great opportunity to get to know your counsellor and for counsellors to get to know you! They would LOVE to hear what you are interested in, if you have any pets or what it is that makes you awesome!

Following this, the campers headed to clubs! Earlier in the day they chose from sport club, art club and outdoor skills club to participate in through the session.

Next was lunch! It was a hot one today so it gave us a chance to relax and practice respecting ourselves by eating our food, drinking some water and letting our bodies take a break. Once campers were rested, they headed to their daily choice activities! Campers had the options of archery, water games or tye-dye/ shirt pressing. In archery the campers showed off their inner Robin Hood’s and played some intense rounds of Gaga Ball while they were waiting. In water games the campers drenched Swish, Bronco and Solstice during water gun fights and shaving competitions. In tye-dye/ shirt pressing the group made some beautiful pieces that they can use to remember camp by!

The final activity of camp was Steps in the Right Direction. Steps is a time to recognize and congratulate each other on positive actions through the day. What did you do today to help someone out? Did someone say something nice to you or play a fun game with you? It is a time to celebrate both the big and small before wrapping up a day of camp.
