Welcome to Camp!

Hello everyone and welcome to camp! We are so excited to meet you all and to start the fun out here at the Kamp Kiwanis facility!

We started our day with announcements from Quack Quack welcoming campers and explaining the rules of camp. She explained that we always, “Cruise in two’s with shoes” (always have a partner and always have shoes on) while at camp and to always respect ourselves, nature and each other. Next, Solo introduced us to club and choice activities. Campers were given the option to choose between Sports Club, Outdoor Skills Club or Art club. Additionally, there will be three different choice activities happening every day for campers to choose from.

Every day we start with a camp wide game! Today, we played Human Tracker. In this game  campers hide in the forest and try not to get caught by the trackers. If they do get caught, they become a tracker and have to find and tag everyone else! Campers loved exploring the woods and finding the best hiding spots.

Next, we transitioned into 2:6 time. During this block, campers and counsellors take time to get to know each other by making a camp contract, building braids and playing games. When making the camp contract, we decide what actions we want to see, and which ones to avoid. It is an opportunity for campers to advocate for themselves and define what they want from camp. When this activity wrapped up we moved into our first session of clubs! In Sport Club we played spikeball and soccer, in Art Club we made olympic torches with paint and in Outdoor Skills Club we built shelters.

After clubs we refuelled with some lunch before heading to our choice activities. Today we had the options of gaga ball, water games or making stress balls!

Following choice was Steps in the Right Direction. This is a time where we recognize and celebrate all the positive actions from campers throughout the day.
