Day 10- Kangaroo Court!

Welcome to the final day of camp! Though we are sad it is the last day, the fact that a counsellor will be slimed is keeping both campers and staff  energized!

We started with announcements before moving onto camp wide game. We played Temple of Doom again today and campers loved running, dodging, and collecting treasure!

Next up we moved to social skill where we focused on exiting groups. Bronco explained that when we leave a group, we should always tell the group why we are leaving and use an exiting phrase. Camper brainstormed these and came up with: thanks for the chat but I have to leave now, I have loved talking but I have to go, and bye, I have to go! Then we applied these in a game of Among Us where campers used exit phrases throughout the activities!

We took a quick break to have some water and snacks before transitioning to clubs! In Sports Club, we played gaga ball and bobo ball, in Outdoor Skills Club, we went for a hike and played Minecraft Survival, and in Art Club we coloured Pokemon!

After clubs, we ate lunch before splitting up for choice activities. Campers chose from gaga ball with Astro or making dreamcatchers with T-Bone!

After choice, campers received their awards and gave out steps before transitioning to the most highly anticipated part of camp- Kangaroo Court! In Kangaroo Court, the campers participate in a mock-courtroom setting where they play the roles of jury, witnesses, prosecution and defence. The counsellors are all on trial for various crimes against camp and the campers decide who is guilty and who will be slimed! Campers have been putting their votes for in the ballot box for the past two weeks, and there were many counsellors accused of crimes against camp. Some of the notable accusations were Yogi being accused of not being a bear, Yoda for spying on campers, Oak for not having a pet tree, Spice-E for not being made of fire and Astro for not being an astronaut. But by far, there were more votes for Spice-E and Oak than anyone else! They were promptly called to stand trial before the court. The witnesses shared the various crimes that they had seen Spice-E and Oak commit, and after a very loud and enthusiastic deliberation with the jury, the Kangaroo determined that both counsellors were guilty! With Oak and Spice-E slimed, justice was served and camp returned to balance.

It has been an energetic, exciting and fun-filled two weeks. Though it is bittersweet that both the camp session and the summer are coming to an end, the Amicus team is incredibly grateful to have shared in the memories with you and your campers. On behalf of the staff, thank you for everything and have a fantastic final weekend of summer.
