Day 2: Entering Groups

Welcome back for day two of camp! We got off to a great start yesterday and cannot wait to continue the fun.

We began with announcements before moving onto our camp wide game of the day- Hostage! This game is similar to capture the flag, but instead of hiding a flag that you have to defend from the other team, you hide a counsellor!

Following camp wide game, we took a short break then headed to the field for social skill. Social skill is a very important part of camp where counsellors lead discussions and facilitate activities surrounding peer relations, emotional regulation and problem solving strategies.

Today, the focus was entering groups. Eclipse explained through demonstrations that a positive way to enter a group is by matching the group’s energy, not interrupting, and staying on topic. We practiced this with a game of Castles (which has the campers try to join another group by determining the secret code) and by sorting through good and bad ways to enter groups! A question to potentially ask your camper is, what is a good way you can enter a group?

After social skill it was time for clubs. In Outdoor Skills Club, we went on a hike and learned basic map navigation, in Sports Club we played basketball, and in Art Club we decorated letters to spell Camp Amicus!

After club, we warmed up inside and had lunch before transitioning to choice activities! For choice today, campers had the option of stealth games with Astro to channel their inner ninja, gaga ball with Yogi or to create Kangaroo Court related art with Bronco!

We then moved to Steps in the Right Direction and before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye for the day!

Have a great night and we can’t wait to do it again tomorrow!
