Day 3: Recognizing Body Language

AC3 Blog-85.jpg

We are so excited to be back for another day of fun!

We began with announcements and a camp wide game of Cardio Pictionary. Cardio Pictionary is similar to regular Pictionary, except campers must chase down counsellors to receive the words to draw for their group. To make things harder, some of the counsellors carry decoy lists to trick campers!

Following camp wide game, we took a quick break before moving to social skill. The topic today was recognizing body language and Solstice lead us through some discussions and activities. The first activity was emotional freeze tag. When campers got tagged, they had to freeze and act out an emotion (happy, sad, angry, confused, etc). They rejoined the game when a fellow camper recognized the emotion. Next, campers played emotional Pictionary, where they drew an emotion of their choice and the group had to guess which one it was. With both of these activities, we found that everyone shows emotions differently and it can be hard to recognize them at times. We also discovered that lots of emotions look the same and to use our detective skills (asking questions about how someone is feeling) to find out. A question to ask your camper could be, what might someone look like if they are sad? Happy? Confused?

Following Social skill we moved to the field for clubs! In Sports Club we played frisbee golf with Oak, in Art Club we painted our nails and made paint t-shirts, and in Outdoor Skills Club we explored the forest.

We took a break for lunch to re-energize and then headed to choice. Campers either canoed with T-bone, made bead animals with Astro or channeled their inner Hawkeye at archery with Eclipse!

Following choice we all met at the Gathering Place for Steps before heading home for the day. We all had a blast and can’t wait for tomorrow!
