Day 4: Maintaining Friendships

It was a beautiful sunny day here at camp and we were so excited to get the day started!

We began with announcements and a camp wide game of Human Scrabble. In this game, campers spell out words based on a theme. But to get the letters they need, they have to chase down counsellors and complete zany challenges! The themes for today were reasons to slime a counsellor, real or fake pokemon and create your own word!

Following camp wide game, we took shelter from the sun, applied sunscreen and had some water before moving to the forest for social skill. The focus for today was on maintaining friendships and we used plants as a metaphor. Bronco tasked us with creating a perfect environment for a plant to grow. We explored the forest looking for rocks and healthy soil and had so much fun discovering new areas. When we returned to the Gathering Place, Bronco related caring for our plant with maintaining a friendship. If we ignore a friendship, it will have difficulty growing and may fade away. Additionally, we have to listen, have patience and trust in our friends for the friendship to grow. A question for your camper may be how can we show that we trust and show kindness to our friends?

After a quick break we moved into clubs. In Sports Club we played Spikeball, in Art Club we drew, made bracelets and made pom-pom art, and in Outdoor Skills Cub we played reverse camouflage. In this game, we taped as many plants, sticks and rocks to Yogi as we could so he would camouflage in the forest. Then he hid and we had to find him!

After clubs we took some time to rest in the shade and ate our lunch. Afterwards we split up for choice activities. Campers chose from water games with Yogi, bird watching with Astro or gagaball with Eclipse!
