DC 2 Zones of Regulation

Welcome back to camp campers! We are ready to have you back for another day at camp, it is extra sunny today so before we start with announcements we lathered up in sunscreen and bug spray.

Campers begin today with announcements, today we begin with campers getting to choose their clubs and choices. Clubs are introduced today campers get to choose between Sports Club BBall Bowling, Science Club Slime Time and Art club Cardboard & Yarn letters.

Today’s camp wide game was Cardio Pictionary

  • Campers are in their groups! Every team sends their first runner to chase down a counselor

  • The counselor has a word sheet and once tagged the counselors gives the runner a word

  • The runner runs back to their team to draw the word on a whiteboard for their team to guess

  • Every word correctly guessed is a point for the team, teams can only send one runner and receive one word at a time. Whoever has the most points at the end wins!

A quick snack break and campers are off to social skills!

The Social Skill today was Zones of Regulation. Where campers learned to understand zones and in scenarios recognize and regulate their emotions!

  • Red is angry, panicked, overwhelmed. Yellow is excited, anxious, worried. Blue is upset, tired, stressed. Green is calm, happy, relax

  • One of the groups had a game essentially like musical chairs, campers would be dancing and when a counselor shouted out a scenario campers would run to the zone they think the scenario would fit in. How would you feel if you forgot to bring your lunch to camp today? Campers ran to red, yellow and blue, a multitude of emotions but everyone is different on how they react!

  • Another group traced themselves 4 times and were given a set of emotions to put into what zone the emotion would be in.

Campers learn to recognize and utilize their understanding of zones as well as being able to express it to others.

Moving forward campers transition towards clubs! Sports club Basketball bowling, Science club Slime time and Art club Cardboard & Yarn letters.

A needed lunch break as campers refuel and transition to their first choice of the day! The choices are bracelet bead making, paper boat making and duck goose/water games!

Campers refueled with snacks and switched up their choices. We ended off the day with steps in the right direction, we will see you tomorrow!
