DC 1 Personal Problem Solving

Welcome back Campers today is going to be a hot one but also plenty of fun so before we start today off, we showered ourselves in sunscreen and bug spray!

Today we started off with announcements that campers got to choose our camp wide game for today and their choices for today as well as the rides we wanted to go on for Calaway at the end of the week.

Our camp wide game was essentially a big game that combined hide and seek, the trappers were tasked with finding the campers and once they tagged at least two members. The campers became a part of the trappers.

After a needed water and snack break the campers were ready to transition towards social skills! Today’s social skill was personal problem solving. Campers learned how to identify the problem, initiate action to solve the problem!

  • Campers were given a tarp and were tasked to stand over the tarp and try to flip it over without anyone touching the ground campers gave suggestions and worked together to flip it over.

  • One group folded the tarp piece by piece and moved each other individually to solve this problem

  • Another activity involved the campers to get intertwined in a human knot by crossing arms and grabbing another camper, the campers then used communication to move each other and disentangle.

Campers are also shown the consequences of their choices as well as to consider the problem from other peoples perspectives through the activities!

After social skills campers transition towards clubs, today’s clubs were spray bottle painting with art club, basketball in sports club and for science club campers made stomp rockets!

As campers take a needed lunch break, they transition towards their choices today! Archery, water games and sculpting.

Campers quickly fueled up as we move towards campers second choice block of the day!

We end our day with steps in the right direction, campers and counselors gather around to give out step stickers to each other!
