DC 1 Zones of Regulation

Welcome back campers, the first week of camp flew by! We had so much fun this week and can’t wait to see you next week.

Following announcements for the day we got right into camp wide game, today’s game was hostage. Two teams are made and each team selects a counselor to be the hostage, each team tries to take the hostage and hides them! Once the game begins both teams try to free the hostage, If the hostage is tagged while returning to their side, they walk back to their hiding spot and the team must try again.

After campers refuel with food and water! They head on over social skills our focus today was for campers to understand zones of emotions and how to regulate and recognize them! First counselors quiz the group on the zones!

  • Red is angry, panicked, overwhelmed. Yellow is excited, anxious, worried. Blue is upset, tired, stressed. Green is calm, happy, relax

  • One of the activities are to hit the ball to a teammate and shout out a feeling in a zone. The person who received the ball needed to say the color of the zone before returning the ball to a teammate.

  • An art activity was then introduced as the counselors gave a scenario to the campers and the campers drew the color of the zone they would feel on to the paper! How would you feel about going home and the last piece of pie is gone? Red zone!

Campers learn to recognize and utilize their understanding of zones as well as being able to express it to others.

After campers head towards clubs! Today’s clubs included unpoppable bubbles for science club, making paper airplanes for art club and belly baseball for sports club!

Next campers are ready to grab some lunch before heading towards the pool on a hot summer day. Thank you for an amazing week, we hope you have a good weekend and are excited to see you next week!
