DC 1 What Other People Are Thinking
Welcome back Campers we are excited to have you back for day 4! We started today with announcements and a quick game of splat before campers got to choose their choices for choice block today!
Today’s camp wide game was Temple of Doom the campers are divided into three teams. The runner team tries to get across the field to collect the treasure on the other side and return it theirs! The other two are tasked with hitting the runner with the dodge balls before the runner can reach the goal! Teams switch up and the team with the most treasure wins!
After a quick break with snacks, refueled campers are ready to transition to Social Skills!
Today’s social skill focused on what other people are thinking! Our social activity’s today focused on reading non verbal ways to communicate to each other and how to read cues from another person. An essential part of social skills is picking up on non verbal communication. A thumbs up for example is using body language to compliment each other. Campers learned eye contact as well as body language is a good way to perceive someones mood. One of the activity’s that the campers engaged in today were working to build Legos together without communicating verbally!
Campers were divided up into groups, all groups tried to communicate non verbally to see who would create the tallest lego tower.
Writing, eye contact as well as body language were some ways campers used to communicate on how they would build the tower!
One group used a clenched fist pounding on the other hand to represent creating the base of the tower, as well as other hand signals.
Campers learned eye contact and body language as well as written non verbal messages to help them pick up on non-verbal communication.
After social skills we moved towards clubs! Art club made and designed paper airplanes, Sports club had variations of Frisbee games going and the Science club floating balloons. Next we transition to our choices of the day after we re-energize with some food!
Campers got to choose early in the day what their choices would be for today. Dungeons and Dragons, Gaga ball, Basketball and Archery were today’s choices!
After a quick snack break, choice groups switch up as we move forward to choice block 2!
We end off our day with steps in the right direction where campers and counselors get together to give out stickers to each other for something they’ve done today. See you tomorrow! Make sure to bring sunscreen, extra water, bug spray and snacks it’ll be a hot one tomorrow!
