Social Problem Solving

Welcome back to another day at Camp Amicus! First, we did morning announcements in the Gym and played our Camp Wide Game for the day. We played a game called Eagle’s Nest, in which campers had to bring as many bean bags as they could back to their team’s hula hoop.
Next, we had our social skill, which was Social Problem Solving.
  • We started off by playing a game called Balloon Problems, in which campers had to become balloons and express how big certain problems are with their bodies.
  • Next, we discussed the Size of the Problem scale to help us rank our problems from big to small. We also talked about rock brain and flex brain. Rock brain happens when we get stuck in our way of thinking and are unable to see other perspectives. When we have a flex brain, we are open to new ideas, suggestions, and ways of thinking.
  • After that, we played a game called “Find Your Dude”. Campers were tasked with finding their matching pair by only saying the word “dude” in different ways (like a cowboy, like a pirate, etc.). This activity required campers to use their flex brains to think outside of the box!
Clubs are next! Sports Club played belly baseball, Art Club made animal art, and Science Club made cloud dough and elephant toothpaste.
After lunch, we split up for choice. Our choices for the day were Comic Book Making, Parachute Games, and Infection Tag Dodgeball!
We concluded the day with Steps in the Right Direction. Steps are paw print stickers that we give to others for awesome things they did that day, like trying out something new or helping a friend!
We had an awesome day at camp today! See you tomorrow!
