Basically a Counsellor

Welcome to the CIT blog!

This week we focused on shadowing the counsellors and developing relationships with the campers. They even got to run their own choices during choice blocks, like making bead animals, terrariums and even swimming! At night they stayed with our counsellors and their 2:7 groups to learn more about bed time programming and other ways to settle the campers down to sleep. They even shadowed our counsellors during their breaks to learn more about the paperwork the counsellors have to do aswell.

Other things they did was singing our “Shelby’s” at mealtime, which is a way to thank the earth and the cooks for our food, to doing trivia before meals. During campfires we would also perform campfire songs and give steps in the right direction to campers, and just being a good role model to the campers.

This week the CITs were living up to their titles as counsellors in training.

During choice blocks the CITs are tasked with guiding the kiddos to their respective choices with their counsellors and even participating with them whether that be on the speedboat going for a ride, or helping take care of the horses at the stables.

Because of the close contact with the campers, they also learn how to develop their confidence with speaking to the kids while also developing the tools they need to succeed as a counsellor.

We Learned lots from our time with the overnight camp, and we can’t wait for what we will learn next.
