Week 2

Welcome back!

It has been a great week here at the CIT program. We spent our time practicing facilitating programs, running activities and building personal skills!

We began with a mock-missing camper situation. The CITs were assigned to find Cricket then kindly coax her out of her hiding spot once she was found. Next, we practiced dry runs of all of our choice programs. CITs were each assigned a 30-minute block to run a program of their choice. Brotula and Cricket gave them personalized feedback afterwards.

Next, the CITs put their skills to the test by running programs for the campers and interacting with them more. CITs ran some very successful choice blocks with Carnival Games, Ooblek making, crayon wax art and Baseball. The campers loved these activities and had tons of fun. They also began to build relationships with the campers by getting their nails painted in spa choice, playing hockey in the gym, playing board games, making tye-dye t-shirts in art, participating in spy-school and eco-printing with the campers!

Later in the week we participated in a mock job interview. The nerves were high when Cricket, Brotula and Chinook asked specific questions, but they learned lots and gained valuable experience. The counsellors also gave each CIT personalized feedback surrounding their strengths and areas for growth.

We then participated in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training with Quack Quack. She taught us about the different responses to behaviours we can use and their matching interventions. This is an integral training for the Camp Amicus staff, and we hope that involving the CITs will build their confidence when managing behaviours.

We had a great second week, but are even more excited for week three when we run will be paired with the counsellors!
