Week 3: Internship

Internship week has flown by, and with it, lots of learning and fun memories!

Since the CIT program began, CIT’s have been learning the basics of what it means to be a counsellor at Camp Amicus, how to facilitate programs, and skills such as First Aid and Crisis Intervention.

Last week, they put that knowledge to the test! Each CIT was paired with a counsellor that they got to shadow. CIT’s were also tasked with running two choice or club programs during the week. The theme of this week is independence, and while Brotula and Cricket were always around to help, we encouraged CIT’s to operate independently to gain a more complete understanding of the responsibilities of a camp counsellor. Our CIT’s ran several successful programs and grew from the feedback from both staff and campers!

At the Foothills Property, Jeremy was sent to the Horsemanship Program in Bragg Creek. Here, he helped Maple and Crash with facilitating social skills programs while campers interacted with horses. Bulldog, Sparkles, and Poprocks each ran a plethora of programs ranging from an art choice, art club, medium, and high choices.

At the Kiwanis property, Jer-Bear ran some high energy sport activities that the campers loved. Jean ran a photo scavenger hunt that let the campers explore the amazing Kiwanis property!

It was a fun and rewarding three weeks of the CIT program. We wish the CIT’s a safe and exciting summer and hope to see them as staff one day!
