Day 1: Welcome Welcome Welcome!

Hello Friends and welcome to another amazing session of Camp Amicus!

We were so happy to meet you all this morning and welcome you to (or back to) camp! Your counsellors have been waiting to meet you all for a while now and are super excited for the next two weeks ahead!

We started off with some camp rules. Can anyone remember our camp rules? Our camp rules are respect ourselves, respect others, and respect the property! Campers, what are some examples of each that you can tell your parents? We also introduced our choices for today! Today we have Aurora leading water games, Bronco leading beading, and Bluejay leading games in the gym!

After our welcome welcome, we joined the amazing Solo for our camp wide game of Temple of Doom! We each took turns trying to get the turtles from one side of the field to the other without getting hit by the ball. It was harder than it sounds, believe us, but we all worked super hard and problem solved together. Check out some of the pictures form the game below!

After our camp wide game, we had some 2:6 time getting to know our counsellors. Campers got to work on their camp braids while getting to chat with one another and their counsellors. We also took this time to work on our camp contract. In our camp contract, we focused on the things we are looking forward to/expected behaviours vs things that we don’t want to see at camp.

After our 2:6 time, we went to clubs! Campers, can you remember the three options we have for clubs at camp? Arts, STEM, and Sports! Today in Arts we worked on a variety of different crafts. In STEM, we did an egg drop, and in sports we played soccer!

After clubs, it was time for some lunch. We cooled off in the gym and then headed out for choice! Today for choice we had beading, basketball and kickball and water games! We got to pick two out of the three and switched after an hour.

At water games, Solstice, Monarch, Astro and SpicE were covered in shaving cream and campers had to spray them with water to get the shaving cream off their faces, first team to get all the shaving cream off the counsellor wins. Water games also had fun with a game of campers vs counsellors…campers, who won?

In beads, campers made lizards that they can attach to their braids and bracelet making. Campers chose some amazing colours for their beads and bracelets.

For our sports choice today, we played a game of basketball and kickball! Campers had to chance to work on their teamwork and learn some new skills.

We finished off the day with steps! At steps campers were able to show gratitude towards other campers for their kindness.

That’s it for today, but we are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow! It’s going to be another hot day so some things that might be in your backpack are:

  • Sunscreen

  • Water

  • Hat

  • Snacks

  • Sunglasses

  • Change of clothes for water games!

See you tomorrow!
