Day 8: Communication
What another whimsical and wonderful Wednesday at camp! After morning announcements, we headed out to the field for a camp wide game of Fear Factor! In order to play this game, campers had to figure out what counsellors were afraid of and bring them back safely to Squiggles who would then award them with a point. Counsellors were afraid of a variety of things, ranging from trees and grass, to shorts and people with blonde hair.

After camp wide game, we had a snack before transitioning onto our social skill of the day- communication! We discussed the five different types of communication: verbal, non-verbal, written, visual, and listening. Two forms of communication that we focused on today are verbal and non-verbal communication. We played telephone charades and also drew a picture with only verbal prompts from the counsellor. A good question to potentially ask your camper may be, what type of communication do you prefer? What type of communication do you find to be more difficult? There are multiple ways to communicate and if there is one way that’s easier for us, it’s important for us to advocate for ourselves and ask for clarification.

Next up, we had clubs. In STEM Club, we had a water balloon drop where we did our absolute best to protect our water balloons from not breaking at the drop. In Art/Music club we made coffee filter art and worked on our camp song. In Sports club, we worked on developing our archery skills by practicing the proper stance and doing our best to aim at the targets..
For choice today, we had archery, gagaball, and worked with watercolour on the tarmac.
Overall, today was a great day at camp and are looking forward to another great day tomorrow.
