Hello Friends and welcome to another amazing session of Camp Amicus!

We were so happy to meet you all this morning and welcome you to (or back to) camp! Your counsellors have been waiting to meet you all for a while now and are super excited for the next two weeks ahead!

We started our morning by getting to know each other and learning some camp rules. Can anyone remember our camp rules? Our camp rules are to respect ourselves, respect others, and respect the property! A good question to ask your camper may be, what are some examples of how you can show respect to yourself, others and camp property? One of our big ones here at camp is to listen to our friends when they are speaking. What are some ways we can show that we are listening? Facing them, not talking to others, looking in their direction.

This morning we also introduced our campers to choice and clubs at camp. Each day at camp, campers have an opportunity to pick two out of three choices for each afternoon. Each choice is either a high, medium, or low energy choice, but more about this later. For clubs, campers can choose from either STEM, Music/Arts, or Sports clubs. At Sport Club, campers learn a new sport every day. At Music/Art club, we are learning how to play a variety of instruments and will also be learning some art techniques. In STEM club, campers will be honing in on their science skills through various experiments each day.

After morning announcements, we moved onto a camp wide game of capture the flag. Teams hid their own flags and worked together to establish strong defence and offence. Following camp wide game, we separated into our 2:6 groups where campers started their braids and we all got to know each other a little more through the creation of our group contracts. On the inside circle of the group contract, we have written things we have decided that we want to see at camp. For instance, we want to make friends, and we can do so by helping people, being kind and checking in on each other. On the outside of the circle, we have written things we don’t want to see at camp.

After 2:6 time, we transitioned into Clubs. This session, we have only had interest in Art/Music and STEM Club. In Art/Music Club, we made maracas and in STEM, we had a bridge building completion.

Following clubs, it was time for lunch and then choice. For choice this afternoon, we had our lovely CIT’s (Counsellor’s In Trainning) running a carnival choice filled with lots of fun games. We had bracelet making run by Phoenix, and hockey with Bluejay!

After choice, we had Steps in the Right Direction. Steps is special here at camp, because it is a time where we reward campers for all the hard work they’ve done.

That’s it for today, but we are looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow! It’s going to be another hot day so some things that might be in your backpack are:

  • Sunscreen

  • Water

  • Hat

  • Snacks

  • Sunglasses

  • Change of clothes for water games!

See you tomorrow!
