Day 9: Friendship

These last two weeks have flown by and we are incredibly grateful for all the fun memories we have created.

We started off with our morning announcements and a reminder that voting for Kangaroo Court closed at noon. On the last two days of camp, campers get to choose what camp wide games they would like to do. As this week was a short week, campers chose one game and it was unanimously decided that we start our day with a game of Among Us.

Afterwards, we had a snack and some water before transitioning to our social skill- Friendship. Building good friendships is no easy task. Today, Monarch discussed the importance of discerning between good and bad friendship behaviours. Campers were given a number of scenarios and discussed whether each scenario was a reflection of a good or bad friendship. Monarch reinforced the notion that good friendships have strong foundations. A good question to potentially ask your camper may be, what makes a strong foundation for a friendship? Some of the things we discussed are trust, kindness, and compassion. We built friendship towers together and also looked for common qualities to build friendships.

Up next, it was clubs! In STEM club, we made projectiles and in Music/Art Club we worked on our song for today’s performance.

This afternoon, campers had one choice block because of Kangaroo Court! Campers chose between superhero school with Aurora, crafts with Phoenix, or Gaga Ball with Bronto.

Following choice, it was time for Kangaroo Court! Throughout the last two weeks, campers have been submitting votes for counsellors they believe have committed crimes against camp. On this bright and sunny day, Ember(oo) read out the counsellors found guilty of crimes against camp. Phoenix was voted in for wearing his hat backwards, Squiggles was accused of votes against her, one for being a coordinator, being too nice, and for walking too fast and then walking too slow. Of all the crimes at camp, Monarch was voted for not being a butterfly, being mean, and being kind. Brontosaurus was voted for wearing glasses because dinosaurs don’t wear glasses, and for not looking like a dinosaur. Court proceedings took a drastic turn when both Monarch and Bronto were put on trial. Prosecution and defence took their stance, Monarch was found guilty of all crimes and in a rare turn of events, Brontosaurus Mighty Junior the Fourth was also found guilty of all crimes against camp.

Now, we cannot believe that camp has come to an end and are very sad to see you all go. However, we are also incredibly grateful for the time we got to spend together and are very proud of how much you have all grown. From all of us at Camp, we hope you have a wonderful and safe summer!
