Day 10: Exiting Groups

DSC08072.jpeg

These last two weeks have flown by and we are incredibly grateful for all the fun memories we have created.

We started off with our morning announcements and a reminder that voting for Kangaroo Court closed at noon. On the last two days of camp, campers get to choose what camp wide games they would like to do. Today, campers chose Temple of Doom!

After camp wide game, we had a snack, some water and discussed our goals and how we felt the session went before transitioning to social skill. Today’s topic was exiting groups. Monarch reminded us that conversations have a rhythm to them. To illustrate this, we started a cascading rhythm with four campers. Each camper was responsible for an instrument and creating their own beat. As each instrument joined, the ‘conversation’ became more lively. But, what happened when an instrument left abruptly? Something was missing. Like this metaphor, exiting conversations is an important component of a conversation, especially if there are only two people. A good question to ask your camper may be, what is a good way to leave a conversation? Today we discussed how you could say, ‘I’ve loved talking with you, but I have to run off to another commitment! See you later”. With Aurora, campers worked their way through exiting conversations while playing Among Us.

Following social skill, it was time for clubs. In STEM Club, campers worked on creating structures. In Sports Club, we played kickball and in Music/Art Club, we sang campfire songs and cooked marshmallows.

Before we knew it, it was time for lunch and then choice! As today is Kangaroo Court day, we only had one choice block. Campers chose from kangaroo golf, kangaroo court signs, and gaga ball.

Kangaroo Court was upon us. The votes were in and many counsellors were voted for crimes against camp. While many counsellors were voted in for horrendous crimes against camp, such as taking away markers, not having the colour blue on them when their name has the word blue in it and not having fun; it was Gecko, Phoenix and Roy who were at trial. At the end of the day, Gecko was found guilty of not having toes, Phoenix guilty of wanting other counsellors to be slimed, and Roy (who is not really a counsellor) was slimed for not being the worst counsellor ever.

After Kangaroo Court, we transitioned into the gym where we had a snack before awards, our slideshow and a wonderful performance by the Art/Music Club.

That’s all from us here at camp. We had such a lovely session with you all and are looking forward to more camp memories next summer. Have a safe rest of your summer and all the best in the school year.
