Horsemanship Week I

Welcome Campers! Today is a very exciting day, we get to dive deep into horsemanship and the indirect social skills that come with riding and taking care of a horse.

We begin our journey to homeland ranch where campers begin with petting and combing the horses! Taking care of horses is a lot of hard work but it is essential to keep the horse in good shape for it to live a long life, just like ourselves!

After campers pick a saddle, they work together to learn how to properly put it on. They are ready to go but not before a quick quiz on each campers horse and the unique parts that make it different from other horses. Each horse is different like each individual although this does not mean we don’t all need a shower, new haircut and some love!

Campers learn then to pull their horses towards the arena and begin to saddle up! As they learn how to maneuver they work together to weave in and out avoiding hitting each other. After campers are off to begin a trail with their horses! Next lunch follows and we end our day at horsemanship and head home!
