Horsemanship Week III

Welcome to Horsemanship Campers! Today we will get more familiar with our horses and campers will learn the ins and outs of horsemanship and the indirect social skills that come with taking care of horses.

Campers first comb and pet the horses. It is essential for the horses to be groomed before they are ready to venture out. Just like we need a good hair cut for us to have some confidence before we head out into the world.

Once the campers gave some love to the horses, they headed inside to learn the terminology for the bridles and equipment to saddle up the horses. Each horse has a different bridle and set up blankets, just like the horses we come in all different sizes and shapes!

After campers work together to saddle up they double check the cinch and make sure it is tight before they head off into the arena. Campers learn how to use their feet as well as looking in the direction to lead their horses. Campers used non verbal communication to get where they want to go.

Tomorrow we are headed off trail using the skills we learned today and this week so far, see you then!
