ON 2 - DAY 2: Being Part of a Group
Day two of camp started off with the introduction of one of our favourite activities, POLAR PLUNGE! Here the campers can wake up a little earlier, and take a quick dip in the pool for that instant shock of energy. If a camper takes part in a polar plunge once, they get a silver polar bear charm but, if they complete a polar plunge every day of the week at camp they get a super special gold polar bear.
After getting dried off, it was time for breakfast, which was a peaceful meal of pancakes, sausages, whip cream and apples. We then had some 2:6 time before moving onto our first of two camp wide games for today.
Today’s camp wide game was “Dress the Beast”, a capture the flag style game, where each team has to venture into the opposing teams territory to retrieve items of clothing for their “Beast” to wear. The resulting mixed matched outfits were hilarious! 10 minutes into camp wide we also open camp wide alt, here campers can get out of the sun and partake in some lower energy activities like colouring or bead making.
A quick transition period later and it was time to delve into our social skills for the day. Today’s Social Skills was “Being Part of a Group”. This social skill is designed to help our campers learn how to navigate and work within groups in their lives, and how it can look very different from group to group. We acted out scenarios to better help our campers understand these ideas, as well as played some games that focused on following group actions.
Lunch was yummy grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup, and salad.
Next up was rest hour, a block where our campers spend time in their cabins/bunks doing quiet activities like reading, drawing or even taking a quick nap. It’s a great way for folks to feel refreshed and energized for the excitement of choice and one final camp wide game.
Speaking of choice, that was up next! Today’s choice activities were archery/ITC, terrarium making and spa day.
After choices were over, we had some more 2:6 / free time and supper which was deconstructed tacos with salad, before setting up for our CAMP DANCE!
We danced, we posed and we played some epic games, and after all that it was time to hand out steps and unwind for the evening. Time is absolutely flying by here at camp, and we hope you are all enjoying following our adventures!
