ON 4 - Day 1: Welcome to Camp!
Welcome to camp everyone! We are all so excited for a week of activities, friendship and even a little bit of learning.
We started our first day of camp, by loading onto the bus to pioneer lodge camp. After a short community meeting it was time to move into our cabins and get our things unpacked.
A camp tour was up next to show all of our campers around the pioneer facilities, and it was already time for lunch! We had make your own sandwiches, and then jumped into choices for the day.
Choice is where our campers get the chance to choose which two activities they would like to participate in for our two choice blocks. The choices for today were canoeing/rock climbing, terrarium making and bead animal making.
We then had our first 2:6 time where we laid out our group rules and then got some free time afterwards to do whatever we wanted.
Supper was up next which was shepherd's pie with salad. We then got to have our opening campfire! It was so much fun to sing, laugh and act out all the song, and after warming up with the virtual flames it was time for “steps in the right direction”.
“Steps” are our way of building a community within camp amicus. Here campers can choose which of their peers and counselors they would like to give a step to. This can have a reason behind it like “Making me feel less anxious to come to camp” or even just for having a nice chat together. Whatever the reason it’s lovely to get and give out steps.
After such a tiring first day it was time for a quick carrot cake snack and then off to bed for our evening programming.
Make sure to check in tomorrow for more exciting fun!
