ON 4 Monday: Being Part of a Group

Welcome to our first full day of overnight camp!

This morning it was a bit rainy, but that has never stopped us at Camp Amicus. An ongoing tradition in our camp is encouraging campers and counsellors to get into the pool super early in the morning, for a Polar Bear Dip! This happens every morning at overnight camp. After that, we got ready for another amazing day.

For breakfast we had tater tots and scrambled eggs. We then got together in our 2:7 groups to decide what we wanted to do for our choice blocks later in the day. Afterwards, we had camp wide game. Today we played Phobias. In this game, our counsellors are afraid of something and it is up to our campers to figure out what it is and bring them back to our lovely program coordinator, Aurora! After a quick snack we got back together to split up for our social skill of the day.

For our social skill today we learned about being part of a group and how our expectations and behaviours change depending on the different groups that we are a part of. This was also supported by activities and games that focused on teamwork.

After social skill, we had quesadillas and salad! By this time we were all super tired already so we headed back to our cabins for a rest hour before our choice blocks.

For choice today we got to choose two from canoeing, rock climbing and slime campaigning, which is to make posters about which counsellor the campers want to slime in Kangaroo Court on Thursday. After choice, we got back into our 2:7 groups so we could have a bit of free time before dinner!

For dinner we had teriyaki chicken and fried rice! Then we had our next camp wide game: Capture the Flag! Afterwards we had Steps in the Right Direction and got ready for bed. We can’t wait for what tomorrow brings, and we hope it’ll be just s good as today!
