ON 2 Welcome to Camp!

Welcome back to Camp Amicus! We are so excited to have you all here and for overnight camp to be back in action after 3 years!

After checking in, we all took the bus all the way up to our beautiful overnight camp location!  when we arrived, we were greeted with snacks and an eagerness to learn more about our peers and counsellors! Before we jumped into our get-to-know-you games, we had a community meeting to discuss the rules and expectations we have at camp to help keep everyone safe. Some of the rules that we have are:

  • We show respect to each other, ourselves, the environment, and the property that we are on.

  • We cruise in twos with our shoes! This means that if we go anywhere, we let our counsellors know, and we bring a buddy with us. Our counsellors just want to know where we are.

  • No technology!

We quickly hopped into get-to-know-you-games which included a game called “Spot!” In this game,  we were given a card with different pictures and drawings and would have to find matching photos with a partner, and when we did we would  have to tell each other our preferred pronouns and find one thing we had in common!

Next we had our 2:6 time which is a time when campers can hangout and meet with their counsellors  and peers in their 2:6 groups. We came up with some goals, worked on our group contract that involves what expectations we have at camp and before we knew it, it was time for dinner! For dinner, we had bbq chicken, salad, corn, and roasted potatoes! After dinner, we got ready for our first Campfire of the session! We danced and sang to campfire songs overlooking the beautiful lake with our new friends! Then, when things started to slow down we did “steps in the right direction,” where both campers and counsellors awarded each other with stickers as a sign of appreciation for a positive step in the right direction that they did today. r At night we all got ready for bed and said our goodnights to our new friends as we will all sleep with anticipation for what tomorrow brings.

That’s everything that happened today at overnight camp!! See you tomorrow!
