ON1 - DAY 2: Social Rules
It’s already day two here at camp, and this morning we got to begin one of our very favourite traditions! POLAR BEAR PLUNGE (dun dun dun!) This is an opportunity for our campers to get up a little earlier, and take a dip in the pool before breakfast. It’s a great way to wake up and get an instant spark of energy!
Heading off to breakfast, we were treated to hash browns, egg and fruit. And it was then time to get into our 2:6 groups to work on goals, zones of regulation and prep for the day to come.
Next up was the morning camp wide game. We played phobias, a hilarious game where campers have to decipher the fears of their camp counsellors. This can range from being scared of people's knees, the colour red and everything in between. It’s a great way for our campers to learn how to figure out what others might be feeling, but not saying.
We then moved into our social skills. Social skill is where we can work with our campers, to learn and improve key social skills that will help them in many different areas of their lives. Today’s social skill was “social rules”, this aims to help campers learn and recognize the sometimes hidden rules of groups or “communities”. We then played the aptly named communities which is a game that teaches campers about following social rules to enter into different groups of campers. It also shows that when we don’t follow these rules, we can find ourselves excluded.
After social skills it was time for lunch which was deconstructed tacos with salad. This led right into our rest hour, where the campers can rest in their cabins, unwind, and recharge their batteries.
We then headed off to our choice blocks for the day. Which were yogi games, comic book making and swimming!
Unwinding with some 2:6 and free time, we were all ready for supper and getting prepped for our evening camp wide game. THE DANCE!
We all danced our hearts out, and then headed off to bed for some much needed rest.
What excitement does tomorrow hold? Hopefully you join us to find out!
