ON 1 - DAY 3: What Others Are Feeling / Kangaroo Court

Our penultimate day at camp started with polar bear plunge and led straight into our breakfast of french toast, whipped cream, sausages and fruit.

We then headed out for choices, which were horse riding, quidditch, Minecraft craft making, and did we mention horse riding!

With such an exciting morning, it was time for some chicken burgers for lunch and then our rest hour.

After our rest hour it was time for the social skill of the day. Today’s social skill was “What others are feeling.” In this social skill, we focus on learning to recognize, understand and support others through supportive comments, and understanding each other's body language.

We then began our camp wide game of cardio pictionary! Campers have to chase down one of three counsellors to get a word, and then run back to their groups to draw it out pictionary style and have the rest of their team guess. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins!

Afterwards, it was finally time for Kangaroo Court! If you are new to Amicus camps, Kangaroo Court is a mock- court case where our counsellors are put on trial for crimes against camp! These are silly things like not knowing how to fly, having elbows on the table or not being like their camp name (for example- Yoda has been put on trial for not being able to use the force!). Once the kangaroo court box is opened, campers are free to write a ballot nominating a counsellor and a reason for why they should be SLIMED at our kangaroo court session.

Apex and Indie were called up for crimes ranging from farting in the cabin, to being stinky and not showering. In the end they were both slimed and the crowd roared with applause at their slimy punishment.

We ended the night with our closing campfire, where we sang some songs, roasted marshmallows for s’mores, and handed out our steps in the right direction.

Camp has been so much fun, and Friday is fast approaching! Is it really almost time to head home?!
