Day 6: Communication
Welcome back to camp! We began with announcements before moving into our camp wide game of Fear Factor! In this game, the counsellors have all developed fears of various things around camp like grass, hats, other counsellors and more. The campers must discover what these fears are and bring them across the field to Solo to score a point!

Following camp wide game, we took a break inside before transitioning into our Social Skill of the day- communication. Astro helped us brainstorm different types of communication (verbal, nonverbal, written, etc) before moving into some activities to highlight them. We played a game of telephone to practice verbal communication and drew actions for our partners to act out to practice written communication. In both activities we saw firsthand how easily our words can be misinterpreted and talked about the importance of using our listening skills and asking clarifying questions. A question to ask your camper may be, what is your preferred form of communication? What type of communication is most difficult for you? There are multiple ways to communicate and if there is one way that’s easier for us, it’s important for us to advocate for ourselves and ask for clarification.

After social skill, we split into our club groups. In Sports Club, we played hockey on the field, in Outdoor Skills Club we went on a stick hunt, and in Art Club we made home-made play-dough.
We took a break for lunch and then moved into choice activities. Campers chose from gaga ball with T-Bone, superhero games with Bronco or spa day with Eclipse!

Following choice, we had steps in the right direction and then pick-up. Thanks for a great day and see you tomorrow!
