Day 4: Digital Communication

Today was another busy day here at Camp Amicus. We started off our day with a game of cardio pictionary, but with a chilly wintery twist. To get their winter-themed word, campers had to chase down counsellors on at the field. Then, they had to hustle back to their teams and draw out their word for their teammates to guess as quickly as possible.

After camp wide game, we jumped into learning about digital communication. In one group, we discussed how it can be difficult to interpret tone through texting and how easy it can be to misinterpret what people are saying online. We also discussed how important it is for us to think about the tone we are trying to convey through our messages. In our other group, we discussed what is appropriate to share on the internet and what is not appropriate to share on the internet. To support our overall understanding of the topic, we discussed different situations and reacted with memes.

In arts club today we took an opportunity to integrate mindfulness in with our colouring. Campers were given an opportunity to colour in either colouring pages that they created themselves or some that we have here. In STEM, we made sugar crystals and had a paper airplane competition. In sports club, we worked on refining our basketball skills by playing a bunch of games.

After lunch/free time, we were headed off for choice. Campers chose between tye dye and button making, dodgeball, and/or water games. In water games, Bluejay claimed to be unslimable… sounds like grounds for Kangaroo court to me! At tye dye, we made t-shirts and worked on creating some amazing buttons for our camp braids. Some of us drew original pictures and coloured them in, but we also had the opportunity to choose from some fun colouring pages.  For dodgeball, we played three different dodgeball games: dr. dodgeball, real dodgeball, and FFA dodgeball. Campers, did you know all these different types of dodgeballs existed? Are there some that you didn’t play today that you would want to play in the future?

What was your favourite part of the day?

We hope you all have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday!
