Day 7: Family Dynamics

It was another busy and fun-filled day here at camp! We started off our day with a camp wide game of capture the flag- force field edition.

Afterwards we transitioned onto our skill of the day. Today we talked about family dynamics and healthy relationships. For some of us, our family are our parents, siblings, and pets. We may also consider aunts, uncles, and cousins to be family and maybe even some friends that we are really close to. However, it’s important to note, that who we consider to be family will be different from person to person. We also discussed how an important part of family dynamics is trust. It’s important for us to trust the adults in our lives and for them to trust us too. Campers, what are some important traits to have in order for you to trust a person and for them to trust you too? Developing a trusting relationship with a person is no easy feat. However, one skill that can help us develop relationships whether it be with our family, or our friends is communication. When we communicate what we need or how someone’s words have affected us, we can work towards creating healthy relationships with people by setting boundaries and asking for help.

After skills, we had clubs. In Sports club, we played basketball, in STEM we continued our bridge building competition, and in Music and Arts club, we made some spin drums.

For choice this afternoon, we had the option of going to carnival games with T-Bone, painting with Solstice, and/or archery with Phoenix. At carnival games we played ring toss, bocce ball, and bean bag toss.  At archery we worked on how to properly hold and bow and arrow, how to aim, and practiced hitting the targets. One of the trickiest parts of this for us was keeping the arrow steady while we were setting up. Finally, we painted and worked on making some buttons for our braids with Solstice.
