Day 3: Digital Communication
What another busy and beautiful day here at Camp Amicus! This morning after campers arrived, we had morning announcements where we introduced our campers to a camp honoured tradition- Kangaroo Court! Kangaroo Court is one of our campers’ favourite parts of camp, because they get to slime a counsellor. In order to slime a counsellor, campers must catch them committing crimes against camp. A good question to ask your camper may be, what is a crime against camp? Some possible answers may include: a counsellor forgetting their water bottle at choice, not liking pineapple on or not letting campers have fun (perhaps the ultimate crime against camp if you ask us).

After announcements, we dove into a camp wide game of human scrabble, underwater edition. Campers were given a word and in order to spell the word, they had to chase down counsellors and complete a task before getting a letter. Campers worked together to communicate what letters they each had and what letters they needed to get. The best part was that if we found a piece of litter in the field, we could show Squiggles and she would give us a letter of our choosing!

Before we knew it, camp wide game was over and we transitioned onto our social skill of the day, digital communication. We began our activity by having a discussion about what digital communication is. A good question to ask your camper is, when do you use digital communication? Their answers may include on the internet. This big question we asked campers today was, how can you be safe when communicating digitally? As this topic can be difficult from time to time, we engaged with a series of prompts and worked together as a group to decide what is safe and what is not safe when playing some of our favourite games. A question you could ask your camper is, what is an example of a safe way to communicate with someone on the internet?
After social skill, we transitioned into clubs. Today at Sports Club, we worked on our football skills. In Art/Music Club, we played the ukulele, and made wind chimes, and in STEM, we made catapults.
