Day 6: Goal Setting
Welcome to week two of camp! It has been a smokey day out, but we haven’t let that stop us from having a ton of fun. As the smoke index is higher today, we have moved all of our camp activities indoors for the day.
We started off our morning with a camp wide game of Temple of Doom. Campers took turns running through a flurry of dodgeballs in order to secure bean bags and turtles that they would then bring back to their side of the gym. If campers were hit with a dodgeball, they would drop the item they were carrying in that place and try again.

Following camp wide game, it was time for our social skill of the day- goal setting! We started off by discussing what goals are and what it means to set goals. A good question to potentially ask your camper is, why are goals important? When we set a goal, we are identifying something we want to work towards and achieve. Some examples that we came up with today are: setting a goal to meet a new friend at camp, drinking a whole water bottle before lunch and eating all of our lunch. Campers worked together to complete a relay obstacle course. Once they made it through the course a counsellor gave them a goal to bring back to their team. Together, teams discussed whether or not the goal they received was a good goal (something that we could feasibly do) or a bad goal (something that we couldn’t possibly do). Beyond camp, setting SMART goals can be a helpful way to help regulate emotions, set routines, and support in providing your camper with a feeling of being successful. What are some small goals that you and your camper can set together at home and beyond?

Afterwards we transitioned into clubs. In STEM, we made structures with playdough and straws. In Sports Club, we played belly kickball and in Music/Art Club we learned how to finger paint and worked on our song that we will present at the end of the week.
Before we knew it, it was time for choice! For choice today, we had Pokemon Go with Bullseye, drawing with Blue Jay, and improv games with Phoenix.

A friendly reminder that tomorrow is western day! Please come to camp dressed in your western-wear!
