Day 7: Communication

What another whimsical and wonderful Wednesday here at camp! After announcements this morning, we jumped into a camp wide game of Temple of Doom. Campers took turns running through a flurry of dodgeballs in order to secure bean bags and turtles that they would then bring back to their side of the field. If campers were hit with a dodgeball, they would drop the item they were carrying and try again. We all had an absolute blast and also got to play some back pocket games with Bluejay before transitioning to social skill.

Today’s focus was communication. Like many of the social skills we focus on here at camp, communication is a vital skill that all of us use in our everyday lives. Aurora taught us about the five main types of communication. A good question to potentially ask your camper may be, what is your preferred form of communication? We discussed verbal, non-verbal, written, visual, and listening. All five of these forms of communication are incredibly important and we might use different variations in different situations. As a group, we drew images and described them to our partners who had not seen the image. The better we communicated the drawing, the easier it was for our friends to draw the same thing.

Following social skill, it was time for clubs. In STEM club, we made yoyo’s and in Art/Music Club, we made some beautiful art out of coffee filters and markers before working on our song for Friday.

Before we knew it, we were transitioning into lunch where we had an awesome dance party after eating. Our choices this afternoon were also fantastic. We had Monarch leading fort building and dodgeball, Phoenix leading flag making, and Bulldog leading outdoor skills

That’s all for today and we are all incredibly excited to see you all tomorrow!
