ON 2 - DAY 4: What Others are Feeling / Kangaroo Court
The penultimate day of camp began with a breakfast of eggs, muffins and oranges. After which we jumped straight into our choice blocks! We had horse riding, quidditch and boondoggle making as our options for today.
Each choice was so much fun, and a great way to start off our day! It was then time for lunch where we had some hearty pulled pork sandwiches with salad, and then settled into our rest hour.
Next up was social skills, which was “What Others are Feeling”. This topic covers how we can help others when they are having big emotions or difficult situations. This can be done with supportive comments and validating the emotions of those around us, even when we ourselves aren’t feeling the same way.
We then played our camp wide game for the day which was human tracker.
Now it’s the moment all the campers have been waiting for, it’s time to bring some counsellors to a slimy justice with KANGAROO COURT! This is our mock trial, where campers can nominate counsellors to be slimed for committing “camp crimes”. These crimes can range from real events that have happened at camp that week like forgetting a baseball cap, to fantastical crimes such as Bronto not having a long enough neck to be a dinosaur.
So without any further ado, please be seated as kangaroo court is now in session!
The atmosphere was tense as the audience filed into their seats around the campfire, everyone ready to cheer, boo and jeer at those unfortunate enough to be placed on trial. The allegations came flying fast and furious “Slime Pickles for eating a pickle!”, “Slime Bronto for taking seconds before it was called!” and “Slime Apex for farting at the girls table!”. After much shouting a consensus was found, Brontosaurus and Red Robin were to be called up to the stand.
Shock, and despair covered the defendants faces as they began to be questioned by the prosecution teams. Some of the audience began to change their allegiances due to harsh grilling the prosecutors presented. It was then time for the defence teams to make their marks, calling upon witnesses to come to the aid of those poor soon to be slimed souls. But, something remarkable happened, as the right honourable judge Koda was contemplating who was to be slimed. Another name was being screamed from the court audience… APEX! After a quick vote it was found that Apex should replace Bronto as the one being slimed. Judge Koda then sentenced the guilty to their slimy justice, Red Robin and Apex were slimed, and the crowd roared in applause.
After such excitement it was time for supper, which was pasta with meat sauce, cheese, beans and corn.
We then headed to our closing campfire where we all enjoyed some songs, s’mores and steps in the right direction.
With such an exciting week under our belts, it was time to get rested, and ready for our very final day of camp!
