ON 5 - Day 4: What Others are Thinking/Kangaroo Court

Our penultimate day of camp began with one final polar plunge back in the pool. We then headed to the chalet for a breakfast of egg with sausage, hash browns and fruit.

Unlike other days at camp today's choice blocks are actually first thing in the morning! So we got divided up into our groups and set off to our choice activities. The choice options today were horseback riding, 9 square and spa day.

After a 15 minute transition it was already time for lunch, which was chicken wraps with chips! Rest hour was up next and gave our campers some much needed rest after all that excitement.

Social skills was next and today’s social skill was “What others are thinking”. This social skill focuses on helping our campers understand how we can learn what someone else might be thinking through the use of body language, tone of voice, etc.

We then had our only camp wide game of the day and got ready for something very special happening right after… KANGAROO COURT!

Kangaroo court is our mock trial where campers can vote for a counselor(s) to be slimed for breaking camp crimes. These crimes can range from “Brontosaurus farting to loud at the dinner table.” to “Red Robin for not being the colour red!”

So with that brief introduction out of the way please be seated as kangaroo court is now in session.

There was a somber mood as we all walked our way over to the courtroom. Everyone knew what was about to go down, someone was getting slimed and there was nothing we could do to stop it. The allegations were read out to vitriolic jeers and boos, there were two names being accused over and over… APEX and MOONBEAM. The two defendants walked to the honourable judge koda’s bench, their heads hung in utter shame. Koda asked for the prosecution teams to begin their line of questioning, each accusation more sinister than the last. “Apex elbowed me in the face, and said WOMP WOMP.“ “Moonbeam kept me up all night with their sleep talking… and they farted really loud.“

A deafening silence fell across the court as Judge Koda began their deliberation, but something unexpected happened… Both the defendants began to blame CALCIFER of being the real ring leader of all these heinous acts. The audience seemed to agreed, and Calcifer was called to the stand. There Judge Koda informed them there would be no trial and that they were to be slimed immediately. Calcifer fell to the ground at the sound of the sentence… they were to be slimed with repeat camp crime offender Apex.

The slime flowed gracefully from the bucket and splashed over the heads of the two now guilty camp criminals. A huge cheer erupted from the crowd as justice had finally been served. Who’s to be slimed next? What terrible crimes will be committed? Guess we will find out next kangaroo court!

Moving on from all the courtroom excitement, mac & cheese with hotdog was the dinner for tonight, and that led us right into our closing campfire.

We had our final steps in the right direction of camp, and then headed off to bed with a delicious snack in hand.

With just one more day left to go, it’s incredible just how fast the week goes. We have all had such fun and can’t wait for one final day of adventure, fun and learning. Come check in tomorrow to find out what we all got up to.
