ON 5 Tuesday: What Others are Thinking

Welcome to our second day of camp!

This morning we started off with our usual polar bear dip at 7:30 in the morning! Then after we got all cleaned up for the day we went inside to eat breakfast which was breakfast sandwiches and fruits. During this time we also sell our choices for the day, which was: swimming, horseback riding, motor boating/tubing or kangaroo court campaigning. After breakfast we got into our 2:6 groups to clean the cabins up and further get ready for the day. Then after we got together as a camp to play a camp wide game which was: Temple of doom!

In this game there are two teams, they take turns switching between runners and throwers. The runners goal is to make it across the temple and grab “artifacts” on the other side and bring it back to their side, while the throwers protect the artifacts using dodgeballs. For our social skill of the day we are learning about, “what others are thinking.” In this social skill we learn about how our actions can effect others and how that can contribute to what they are thinking and feeling in that scenario, we also take into account our own emotions and what we are thinking.

At lunch we had chicken sandwiches and salad. Then we had rest hour before our aforementioned choices. On the motor boat we started off by cruising around the lake, then stopped to get some people on the tube. After learning the hand signs there were so many crazy fun moments! In the pool we played splashed around and floated in cool water in the nice summer heat. At the horse stables we made some new friends and went on guided tours around camp, and even got to pet them as they poked their heads out of the fences. In our dining hall campers were making posters for our kangaroo court that is happening on Thursday, to help decide who will get the unlucky fate of getting slimed!

After choices those who needed to got changed, then got back into their 2:6 groups to debrief, play games etc. Then we headed out for free time!

For dinner we had stir fry. Then got together for our second camp wide game: Hydro Pyro! In this game there are two teams. In the beginning the two teams run into the forest to find branches and other useful material for a fire. After the allotted time ends the two teams appoint a fire tender to help a counsellor keep the fire alive, then the real game begins. The goal of the game is to put out the other teams fire with cups of water without being tagged and before your team’s fire goes out.

After the game we settled down for steps in the right direction, then got ready for bed.

Today was so fun, the weather was perfect and the activities were even more perfect for today. We can’t wait for what we’ll do tomorrow.
