Polaris I: Week one

Welcome to the Polaris Blog! Our theme for this week is self advocacy, and teamwork.

On Sunday we arrived to our overnight campsite. Upon arrival we played a few get to know you games then went over some basic rules and expectations for camp, these were:

  • Respect each other, the campsite, and ourselves.

  • Cruise in twos, with shoes.

  • No technology!

After that we got our stuff to set up our cabins for the week. For dinner we had penne pasta with alfredo sauce and a salad. Then left to learn how to set up a campfire then did steps in the right direction. This is a way to say thanks to our peers and counsellors alike. Then we got ready for bed super excited for the day to come!

On Monday it was our very first full day of camp! This morning we had our polar bear dip, which is a tradition in our camp that involves going into the pool super early in the morning, its a great way to wake up and start the day off! For breakfast we had tater tots and scrambled eggs then got together to discuss what the week was gonna look like. We also touched on what the following weeks would look like aswell. After that we went down to the point to learn some basic wilderness skills!

For lunch we had quesadillas and salad! By now most of us were already exhausted, so we had a rest hour where we are expected to be in our cabin bunks doing something quiet before the main part of our day.

We also did a few team building exercises, and learning how to help, and lean on each other for support with a low ropes course! Then we had a bit of free time before dinner.

Afterwards we built another campfire and also had steps in the right direction again.

Polaris has been so fun for all of us and we cannot wait for what the next few days will bring!
